The Whole Book of Psalms Collected into English Metre by Thomas Sternhold, John Hopkins and others Conferred with the Hebrew - London 1676
In ancient times the book of Psalms were sung as part of worship. In conformity with this tradition individuals or groups of people have in more modern times, have sought to make the Psalms singable in modern worship.
To accomplish this, edition of the Psalms were produced in ''metre,'' that is in rhyme and with condence of modern speech. This example by Sternhold, and Hopkins was very popular beginning in the 16th century. Often printed Bibles had a special section reserver for these metred Psalms, and they would be sung in church as a part of their worship.
